What is Vantage?
Vantage is a vehicle that allows me to share my various passions, interests and obsessions.
I am an historian at heart and at one point seriously considered becoming an archaeologist.
For twelve years I followed my penchant for travel in a more formal corporate environment. Today my vocation is determined by my various interests.
Automobiles are one of my greatest passions, I am an absolute BMW fanatic, but that is not to say I don’t have an appreciation for other marques, on the contrary. I however am a true devotee of the classics.
My love for cars has led to my obsession of 1/18 scale die-cast model cars. I have two hundred cars in my collection which is constantly growing. Take a peek at the Models section in my gallery and I dare you not to want one.
I am a regular contributor to the BMW Car magazine; I also contribute to other interesting publications, please review the Publications section.
Creating one-off motoring memorabilia pieces, be it posters, canvases or books is a rewarding process which can only be topped by the excitement displayed by the recipients. Check out the Memorabilia section.
Still with a keen sense of wanderlust, my wife and I seek out the lesser-known places on the road less travelled. We travel as often as we can locally and internationally whenever possible. Our most memorable trip was touring through Italy for three weeks in September 2005. Our local travels have led to my discovery of the liquid gold which South Africa is world-famous for – Pot Still Brandy. I’ve shared some of my travel experiences in my gallery.

Rory Byrne is the designer of the 1994 and 1995 Benetton cars which Michael Schumacher won the Formula 1 drivers championships with. He became part of the Ferrari ‘Dream Team’ consisting of Jean Todt, Ross Braun and Michael Schumacher winning six constructors championships in a row from 1999 to 2004 and five driver’s championships with Michael Schumacher from 2000 to 2004.
Getting an insight as to what goes into car design over a beer with Gordon Murray
South African born Gordon Murray is a legendary designer and engineer – he designed the Brabham Formula 1 cars which enabled Nelson Piquet to achieve two driver’s championships. The cars he designed at for the McLaren Formula 1 team resulted in several drivers and constructors championships. He is also responsible for the McLaren F1 Supercar it held the record for fastest road car for several years and Murray was also part of the team responsible for the Mercedes-McLaren SLR Supercar.
Found in the Cusco region of Peru Machu Picchu was built at the height of the Inca Empire it forms part of the New Seven Wonders of the modern world list.
Located between the Dead Sea and the Red Sea in Jordan the ancient city of Petra is carved from sandstone cliffs. Petra was capital of the Nabataean empire between 400 B.C. and A.D. 106 and also forms part of the New Seven Wonders of the Modern World.
Angkor in Cambodia stretches over some 400 km2, Angkor Archaeological Park contains the Temple of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and the Bayon Temple. The Angkor complex encompasses all major architectural buildings and hydrological engineering systems reflecting the splendour of the cities that once were.

Tour of the Google campus in California, better known as the Googleplex with founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin as my tour guides. Google does more searches than all other search engine combined, it is the most used internet application today.
